Self Catering Compared To Group Tours

A tour group and guide seem like great ways to visit a new country. Indeed, it is a wonderful idea for those who are new to a country. But consumers will find that going with a group enables much less freedom as a result as compared to a self catered trip. Knowing which one is more beneficial to one's situation is key to making the most of a vacation.

Self catering, as the name would imply, is for those who aren't afraid to travel alone or with a friend or family members. Self catering is usually only recommended by travel agents if the traveler knows the area or has visited once before. In the case of not knowing the area, the consumer might want to take a guided tour the first time, and visit later as a self catered trip.

Freedom is a characteristic of a vacation that should be had in order to enjoy one's self fully. After all, one can enjoy themselves much more if they can do the things they want, and not everything they don't. Sadly guided tours will give little choices in what the traveler can accomplish, and there will likely be things that the traveler will miss out on because of it.

Looking at art and viewing monuments may seem like a great way for adults to view the world as they couldn't previously, but for kids, it's just a boring way to spend a vacation. To appease the younger ones, a self catered trip is required so that they can do what they want while the adults can have the entertainment they had in mind.

Tour groups aren't entirely a dictatorship. Indeed, they do allow for some free time. But when considering that they usually don't allow alcohol or sometimes even smoking on the tour, this can conflict with the views of others who view it as a great way to have fun when done in moderation. Again, this imposes on the consumers freedom- something that feels less fun than being able to do things otherwise.

In the end, a self catered trip is a lot more work when considering a lot of planning has to be done beforehand. But in exchange for the freedom, it is usually well worth it. Just be sure that the area is well scouted out, all arrangements are made, and a travel agency is consulted. Be sure to tell the agency it is a self catered trip, so they can offer accordingly good advice.

In Conclusion

Vacations are always viewed best as having freedom, but making the decision to opt for a self catered holiday or not should be done with a professional travel agent. Only they can size up the vacation, the traveler's needs, and what he or she thinks that the traveler can handle.
