Fun Recipe Ideas That Allergy Sufferers Can Use

Although you may have a food allergy, this doesn't mean that you have to give up tastes of foods that you once loved. Even making complex meals is possible through means of substitution and creative ways of duplicating different cooking techniques. It's true that an allergy sufferer can have the majority of the foods he or she wants.

Sometimes you can buy foods that are already processed in order to cater to those with a food allergy. You would think that this market is relatively small, and only caters to obvious foods, but this isn't so. Stores are springing up in major cities that stock entire store shelves of allergen-free foods. You can get everything from appetizers to real full-course meals from such places- which can be found online if you aren't near them.

Perhaps one of the worst food allergies for those who like baked goods is the allergy to dairy products. A dairy allergy means that most baked things such as cake will be off-limits unless they were made in a special way. This means replacing the milk or butter products, and replacing them with oils, vanilla and sugar, and perhaps a little lemon juice for flavoring. It will taste just as good, and is perfectly fine to consume.

Grain allergies are hard to deal with in making things such as biscuits, eating cereal, or enjoying a nice loaf of bread. Grain allergies can be worked around by using types of grain that don't affect your allergy, such as corn. Also using potato-starch flour and baking powder, along with other ingredients, can allow you to make your own grain foods that are safe to eat.

Oddly enough, we can have trail mix even while having a nut allergy. Substituting peanuts and other types of nuts with granola, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds can make the same type of mix only devoid of nutty flavor. You can also include raisins, yogurt, and dried fruits to help spruce up the mix to be as authentic as possible. In all, not including the shopping, this won't even take five minutes to setup and start enjoying.

If you are having trouble coming up with ideas, instead focus on using substitutes in regular recipes. When a recipe would call for milk, for instance, you might instead use a milk substitute. We can do this with all current allergies- from nuts to grains. It may be a bit more expensive than normal food ingredients, but it is well worth the comfort of having any food even with allergies.

Final Thoughts

No one likes to hear that they have to give up a certain food group, but the process isn't as bad as you might think. The amount of consumers with a food allergy is increasing, and stores that cater to them are likewise doing so. Your options today are much more convenient than that of ten years ago.
